I think a lot of people are concerned about this problem. There is no school in America that is “best,” and this question can actually lead students to make incorrect college choices. Students should pursue colleges based on personal preference and based on desired outcomes. Are you price-conscience? Look at schools with low tuition-to-expected pay ratios. Georgia Tech is ranked poorly, but is one of the best schools available based on the average income students receive after graduation, and has a low tuition. Are you considering a specific major? Many excellent schools are, on average, quite good, but individual departments may be lacking, while many “inferior” schools may have specific departments that are far superior. In example, the University of Wisconsin Madison is one of the top math schools in America, and if you’re interested in economics, the University of Minnesota Twin Cities has a fantastic program that’s easy to get into.
I hope this is helpful for everybody.
